It's crazy how time flies , around a month ago this time we were running around the mountains outside the quint little mining town of pilgrims Rest looking for runners facing the daunting task of finishing the innuaguaral Mac Mac 100 miler. If you've reached this post on our website ,then you probaly know by now that we are mountain and nature "bedinges"/obsessed. We aren't phoographers in the Mpumalanga lowveld region for nothing. We live and work here not just because of the awesome climate and friendly people, but because we love the fact that we've got a huge natural playground such as Sabie and the surrounding areas, to satisfy our need for running hiking cycling climbing , basically any -ing activity that happens outside on a trail or mountain. For this reason photographing the Mac mac ultra was special to us, because it was like having all our friends having fun in our backyard. Almost like hosting a trail party! getting content on trails that we run on regularly was such an epic experience, and who knows maybe next year we'll run the full hundred miles with camera gear and all, immersing ourselves to give outsiders and people across the country an even better insight view of what ultra running and trail running entails. We are incredibly fortunate to be able to call this our work as it is directly in line with our passions for nature and the outdoors. If you're keen for a proper run, cool people and magnificnet scenery, then come do mac mac , it is hosted on the Fanie botha hiking trail , one of the flagship hiking trails in our country! . You will leave the Lowveld with a new sense of appreciation!

If you've been living in the Lowveld , chances are almost 100% , that you've sat on, drank out of, or used the equipment of Doug's Hiring, whether it was at a wedding , business event, or corporate dinner. We were tasked to provide the Doug's Hiring Team with updated images of the products that they have on offer. This meant setting up our mobile studio at their premises. Days like these can be quite challenging as different products require different lighting setups. Judging by the final product, and the amount of editing hours we are quite happy with how these images turned out!
Umganu Lodge is an idyllic retreat for those wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. This beautiful Lodge is open to the Kruger National Park and provides uninterrupted vistas of the magnificent Sabie River which is known for attracting an abundance of wildlife. Due to Umganu being a family destination, it has a perimeter fence which is electrified to ensure that the animals do not roam into the lodge.
As Lodge Photographers in Nelspruit - Which means we are quite close to Kruger National Park and it’s surrounding reserves, we were assigned to portray Umganu as a family holiday destination. A lodge that is child friendly where a whole family can come and enjoy the beauty of the Wild African bush. Nothing is more special than spending quality time with Loved ones in this magnificent setting and this is exactly what Kevin Pietersen owner of Umganu wanted to share with all his guests. Our Goal was to give the images a real lifestyle and natural feel. Going about this we ensured that everyone was casual during the shoot, otherwise everything would look too staged. We had multiple setups that needed to be portrayed and captured during the shoot. From having lunch as a family, right through to cooling down in the pool and looking for lions on a game drive.
Before the shoot we looked at Umganu’s website and we noticed that they already had good looking imagery of the lodge, and we tried to shoot in a way that would compliment the existing look and feel they already had. By making use of our Mobile light, we were able to fill in some shadows where needed and created a bit of atmosphere in some of the images.
Spending a whole afternoon at Umganu was such an unique experience as the relaxing atmosphere played it’s part to really make for a pleasant shooting experience. Judging by the final look of the images and great feedback from our clients, we can honestly say we are really happy with how everything turned out.
Wrapping up yet another project with probably the best landscape artist and designer in South Africa, Leon Kluge continues to push the boundries of landscaping. His new creation incorporates different plants to create a haven for animal life such as ugs, bees and birds. A sanctuary for life to not only live in , but to thrive. To the untrained eye this garden might look quite overwhelming and out of order, but if one looks closer at each plant and patch of greenery , you will clearly notice that there is more to this garden than what meets the ey. Leon carefully crafted a design that incorporates each and every element of sustainable gardening into this project. As phonix capture we are proud to be associated with a landscape artists that focuses on the sustainability of his work. Creating motion content and taking stills in these environments gives us a glimpse into the intricate world of fauna and flora. In this video our aim was to convey the idea and backstory of the garden, and not only showing them visuals. This garden is a creative masterpiece and it was an incredible honour to witnees and be part of the whole process. Sven flew all they way to Cape Town and spent a few days in between the greenery. We love the edit and look forward to see which creations Leon will come up with in future!
