Wrapping up yet another project with probably the best landscape artist and designer in South Africa, Leon Kluge continues to push the boundries of landscaping. His new creation incorporates different plants to create a haven for animal life such as ugs, bees and birds. A sanctuary for life to not only live in , but to thrive. To the untrained eye this garden might look quite overwhelming and out of order, but if one looks closer at each plant and patch of greenery , you will clearly notice that there is more to this garden than what meets the ey. Leon carefully crafted a design that incorporates each and every element of sustainable gardening into this project. As phonix capture we are proud to be associated with a landscape artists that focuses on the sustainability of his work. Creating motion content and taking stills in these environments gives us a glimpse into the intricate world of fauna and flora. In this video our aim was to convey the idea and backstory of the garden, and not only showing them visuals. This garden is a creative masterpiece and it was an incredible honour to witnees and be part of the whole process. Sven flew all they way to Cape Town and spent a few days in between the greenery. We love the edit and look forward to see which creations Leon will come up with in future!

At the end of 2018 the phonix capture team ventured high into Lesotho for some proper mountain time at Semonkong lodge. We were on assignment for Love Africa Marketing , to shoot a promotional Lodge Video for Semonkong lodge. They have a host of activities on offer and we wer tasked to caprture thee activities in the best way possible. Being an adventurers paradise, this was right up our alley, and we spent an exciting three days around the lodge capturing motion content of this vibrant town. From drinking maluti beer in a local pub, to abseiling down the highest abseil in Africa next to the majestic Maletsunyane falls, all this while shooting video was quite an extraordinary adventure!
All in all we enjoyed our time at Semonkong thoroughly and we can't wait to return to the place of smoke!
The site on which the lodge stands, started by Syd Chaplain of Maluti Treks, was a favourite camping base for pony trekkers and fly fisherman looking to catch the famous brown or rainbow trout. Today, the lodge has grown to 23 stone and thatch rooms neatly positioned on the banks of the Maletsunyane River.
Deeply ingrained in the Semonkong Village and community which is just a stone’s throw away, the lodge is always bustling with activity as the Basotho people go about their daily lives. The balcony outside our Duck and Donkey Tavern, offers a fascinating view of daily life in Lesotho, as the Basotho’s, in their straw hats and traditional blankets, trot gracefully past on their ponies, followed by scuttling sheep, dogs, goats and donkeys. They are constantly transporting food and supplies, including large amounts of beer, from Semonkong to their villages which are sometimes days away.
Semonkong Lodge offers you a glimpse of life in “The Kingdom in the Sky”, knowing you will return home refreshed and at peace.
Mud, Mud And More Mud, Lot's and Lot's of Mud. The 3rd race in the lowveld Enduro Series challenged riders to the utmost of their abilities. Steep inclines, slippery rockplates and lot's of technical riding made for one pretty exciting day out on the track.
As our second Enduro event, and with us a bit more comfortable in between 300+ two strokes blasting from all directions, we got our bearings together and headed out onto the track to capture all the slipping, sliding swearing laughter and full throttle action in the Sappi plantations around Legogote ( Spitskoppie) close to White river.
An action packed day out, with a few riders cominfg down hard, and the poor gentleman on our cover image breaking his leg. But we guess that's the price you pay when going full speed around corners ,over boulders searching for a full-on adrenaline rush!
Shooting the riders zig zaging their way through towering gum trees and negotiating single traack in dark dense natural forests is really interesting, you've got this beautifull setting expecting quiet and peace but the sounds you hear are those of riders ripping through the air on the back of their chosen weapon. All in all we enjoy shooting these events a lot, it challenges us in a range of diferent ways, as you have only a few seconds to get "the" shot before riders dissapear into the distance again. Thus each and every shot has to be planned and imagined before you actually start recoding, as the margin for error is quite small.
We are super happy with both the hightlights edit and the full version edit , with Sven keeping it interesting by using various transitions and as always appealing music! Needless to say we can't wait for the next Enduro event hosted by the Awesome team of the lowveld Enduro Club.
Lifestyle photography has always been a industry that has been very close to our hearts, and over the years our passion to capture the golden moments of family life has grown immensely. Lifestyle photography is interesting in the sense that you grow with your client base, usually starting from the "big day" right through to Baby shoots and then family sesiions. The ehlers family is one of those families that has come with us for quite a while , we've done numerous sessions with them, each time at a more breathtaking location than the next. From the foresty beaches of port Edward to now shooting them with the Cape winelands as the background, photographing this family has always been a highlight and adventure to us.
Sven flew all the way to the western Cape for this Lifestyle Location photography session, and we are extremely happy with the images he managed to create. We cant wait to see what the next ehlers family shoot has in store , and where it might take our team! To Tonya and the family, Thank you for always trusting us with your most precious family memories over the past few years!
Langebaan, the watersport adventure hub of South Africa, a place of unparalleled beauty , stretching sand beaches and crystal blue water. An adventure travelers paradise. Sundowners on the beach or on your stoep looking acroos the bay as the last rays of sun casts its golden rays across the lines of the last few kitesurfers. Days are filled with eiteher surfing, Stand up paddle boarding or for the less adventure drivewn, a glass of bubbly.
Meraki Lodge offers all this and more, sweeping views across the bay , modern open plan living with unique and artistic touches to offer guests a well rounded laid back feet up experience.
Sven Were assigned to photograph what Meraki has on offer, the scenery in and around the lodg nd then of course some of the adventure activities. Now for thos of you who don't know, Langebaan and nelspruit is one heck of lonbg way from each other, so Sven had to almos travelo a full day just to get to hte shoot. By the look if it he were able to put his feet up though, bubbly fruit platters and an awesome weeekend in the West Coast. He lit mopst of hte roos with the mobile light to create a more vibrrant and open feel to thew images. Usually we like to use more than one light whil shooting guest houses or lodges, but in this case the travelling arangements made lugging gear all the way quite difficult. Needless to say , we are quite stoked with the final results of the shoot. Happy client happy Life !
