The Kinnear family created something unique, a reserve where future generations will be able to see how the real Africa once looked. At Hannah game Reserve the earth is untouched
, it’s raw beautiful red soil tells the story of the endless amount of animals that has grazed on these plains and walked their paths under the African sun.
It was a black eagle soaring effortlessly across the sky that made Fred Kinnear fell in love this piece of paradise. He felt that it was his duty to protect this land and called it Hannah , which means a “ Gift from God’
Happiness is an interesting thing, can one be truly happy when you’re alone, can a moment be Fulfilled completely without being able to tell someone. Happiness in all it’s joy, is only real when shared- yes a quote from Into the Wild. This was a strong feeling the Kinnear family had, could they fully enjoy their Hannah, their gift, without sharing it? No , they wanted to share the joy this gift gave them with other people,They wanted to gift other people with their gift. So they established Hannah game lodge, a place of serenity. A place which people could visit to get peace and rest a place where they could step back into the real Africa, into untouched nature, into a place of true happiness.
So how does this relate at all with us Photographing Hannah Lodge you may ask? Well. It’s actually quite simple, our brief was to capture the immense beauty of this land , the animals, the landscapes, the lodge, the activities, everything that would give people visiting this unique reserve a true sense of happiness, a feeling of immense joy. Not a “this is what you’re paying for and book us” feeling, rather taste of what people can expect when they set their foot on the Hannah Lodge premises. The feeling they’ll get when they see giraffes , buffalo , rooi hartebeest, and gemsbok grazing merely metres from each other. Witnessing a real African Thunderstorm passing overhead, blessing the soil with it’s life giving droplets. Indigenous trees and grass species folding their green blanket over stretching plains and mountain ranges.
Being Professional photographers is quite challenging at times. It looks romantic and easy, but as with any business it’s hard work. However, assignments such as Hannah lodge makes days and nights of editing all worth it. When Harshil Mitha of Two Red Pens marketing agency called us up to create content for Hannah lodge, we didn’t know what to expect, heck we didn’t even know where it was. All we knew is that it was close to a small bushveld town of Orighstad in Limpopo. Lodge photography and Lodge videography is always and interesting task as we never know what we will have to work with until we arrive at the lodge to start shooting. Normally we’ll look at their current content and then look into the brief of the assignment and then plan it from there.
To be honest we were quite shocked by the size of Hannah lodge and the beauty of the surroundings. All of this, only two hours away from home? Well needless to say we were excited to start clicking away as soon as possible. We just got into the flow of things when a Proper African thunderstorm made its appearance on the horizon. The clouds rolled over the savannah t it was truly a sight to behold, a real African thunderstorm, even as people living in Africa this is unique, and especially at Hannah Lodge. Standing on their ‘stoep’ you can see for miles without seeing any other buildings or human activity, it’s just bush and mountains.
